Exam Strategy
Readiness Check
You are ready when you can:
- State sec/csc/cot definitions and undefined sets.
- Locate asymptotes from sin/cos zeros.
- State sec/csc range and cot behavior.
- Sketch/read reciprocal graphs with precision.
On the AP Exam
- MCQ: asymptotes, range, undefined values, graph identification.
- FRQ: describe characteristics with justification (skills 2.B, 3.A).
Tactics
1. Start from sin/cos zeros for asymptotes. 2. For sec/csc range, remember outputs never in (-1, 1). 3. Cot: asymptotes where sin = 0; decreasing between. 4. One-period sketches with dashed asymptotes. 5. Check denominator before numeric evaluation.
Common Traps
- sec/csc value between -1 and 1.
- Wrong asymptote angles for cot.
- Treating cot like tan's increasing shape.
- Evaluating at sin or cos zero.
