Exam Strategy
Readiness Check
You are ready when you can:
- Write $P=(r\cos\theta, r\sin\theta)$ quickly.
- Give exact QI values for $\pi/6$, $\pi/4$, $\pi/3$.
- Adjust signs by quadrant.
- Handle a non-unit radius without dropping $r$.
On the AP Exam
- MCQ: exact values; coordinates on a circle; sign by quadrant.
- FRQ: find $P$ or exact $\sin/\cos$; apply numerically in context (skills 2.A, 3.B).
Tactics
1. Reduce to a related QI reference angle when helpful. 2. Recall absolute values from special triangles. 3. Apply ALL appropriate signs for the quadrant. 4. Multiply by $r$ for coordinates. 5. Box the ordered pair $(\,r\cos\theta,\, r\sin\theta\,)$.
Common Traps
- Forgetting $r$.
- Right absolute value, wrong sign.
- Mixing $\pi/6$ and $\pi/3$ sine/cosine.
- Degree/radian mode mismatches with technology (prefer exact when asked).
Quick Checklist
- [ ] Angle location / quadrant clear
- [ ] Reference absolute values correct
- [ ] Signs applied
- [ ] Factor $r$ included for coordinates
- [ ] Ordered pair in $(\cos,\sin)$ order scaled by $r$
