Exam Strategy
Readiness Check
You are ready when you can:
- Convert parametric motion to p(t) in component or i,j form.
- Compute |p(t)| and interpret as distance from origin.
- Describe direction from velocity component signs.
- Compute |v(t)| as speed and support claims (3.C).
Course vs AP Exam
Course scope only (Unit 4 additional topic; not on the AP Exam). These skills still matter for Unit 4 coursework and matrix topics that follow.
Tactics (course assessments)
1. Write p(t) = <x(t), y(t)> first. 2. Magnitude: sqrt(x(t)^2 + y(t)^2) for distance when needed. 3. For velocity, identify v(t) components before |v(t)|. 4. Direction: note signs of components at the time asked. 5. Quote values when justifying (3.C).
Common Traps
- Confusing |p(t)| with |v(t)|.
- Forgetting i,j form is equivalent to <x(t), y(t)>.
- Unsupported direction statements.
- Evaluating magnitude with wrong t.
Quick Checklist

- [ ] |p(t)| interpreted as origin distance
